Dinner And A Show: Organ Piper Music Palace Is One Of America’s Last Remaining Organ Pizza Parlors

Published: July 31, 2025

Since 1976, Organ Piper Pizza has been creating family memories one slice at a time, making it one of only two remaining theater pipe organ-equipped pizza parlors left in the entire United States.

This isn’t just dinner and a show – it’s a full sensory experience that captures the whimsical spirit of 1970s family entertainment.

The venue combines live pipe organ playing during normal business hours with an arcade room, great food, and even a small dance floor, creating an atmosphere where three generations can find something to love under one roof.

The Mighty Wurlitzer Experience

The Star of the Show: The centerpiece 1928 Wurlitzer organ features a 1929 console originally installed in Buffalo’s Seneca Theater, with pipes and effects cobbled together from various sources.

You’ll watch in amazement as the organist’s hands dance across three 61-note keyboards while their feet work a 32-note pedal board, controlling 234 tabs and 158 other controls that operate everything from traditional organ pipes to percussion instruments and those famous quacking ducks.

Live Performances Daily: Musical sets last between 30 and 45 minutes followed by a 15 to 20 minute break, beginning 30 minutes after opening each day. You can submit request cards for your favorite songs – organists have an impressive range and can play everything from Bach to the Top Gun theme to Star Wars medleys for the kids.

Award-Winning Talent: Lead organist Zach Frame was named “Theatre Organist Of The Year” by the American Theatre Organ Society in 2022, while substitute organist Dean Rosko is heard by millions as the official organist for the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Admirals. Each performer brings their own flair, ensuring no two visits are exactly the same.

Interactive Elements: The organ experience goes beyond just music. You’ll see animatronic figures come to life, patriotic flags unfurl during appropriate songs, and various sound effects that were originally designed to accompany silent films in the 1910s and 1920s. The Wurlitzer has been updated with cool new effects from sounds to light effects while maintaining its vintage charm.

Pizza & Menu Highlights

Signature Thin Crust: Their homemade thin pizza crust and sauce topped with lots of real mozzarella cheese has remained unchanged since opening day in 1976. You’ll find the crust perfectly crispy with just the right amount of chew, topped with a rich tomato-based sauce that lets the cheese and toppings shine.

The Milwaukee Special: This local favorite combines sausage, onion, and mushrooms for a distinctly Wisconsin flavor profile. The combination creates a hearty, savory pizza that pairs perfectly with the lively atmosphere.

Beyond Pizza: The menu includes mozzarella sticks, zucchini fries, jalapeño poppers, chicken wings, and even mac and cheese. The zucchini fries are particularly popular among families, offering a slightly healthier option that kids actually enjoy eating.

Gluten-Free Options: They offer both 10″ and 14″ gluten-free pizza crusts, ensuring everyone in your party can enjoy the full experience regardless of dietary restrictions.

Atmosphere & Décor

Nostalgic Circus Vibes: The décor is described as “suburban basement meets circus meets pizzeria”, creating a uniquely whimsical environment that feels frozen in time from the 1970s. The slightly kitschy aesthetic is part of the charm, transporting you to an era when family entertainment venues embraced bold, colorful themes.

Self-Service System: You’ll use a simple self-serve system – grab a menu at the entrance, order at the register when ready, and wait for your number to light up on a bingo-style board. This casual approach keeps costs down while adding to the nostalgic, unpretentious atmosphere.

Family-Friendly Layout: The space includes booth seating perfect for families, a small arcade area to keep kids entertained between organ sets, and an open layout that allows everyone to see and hear the organ performance regardless of where they’re seated.

Historic Building Character: The building was converted from former truck garages, giving it an authentic, unpretentious feel that matches the family-friendly mission. The slightly weathered charm adds to the authentic vintage experience.

Other Considerations

Reasonable Pricing: You’ll find this is genuinely affordable family entertainment, with pizza prices comparable to other local spots but with the added value of live entertainment included. The combination of quality food and live organ performances makes it accessible for regular family outings and birthday celebrations.

Parking and Accessibility: The location offers easy finding with adequate parking, taking the stress out of your visit. The venue is wheelchair accessible and offers on-site restrooms and air conditioning for comfort.

Perfect for Celebrations: They accept reservations for groups of ten or more and are particularly popular for birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, and team events. The organist can even play special songs for your celebration when you submit a request card.

Best Visit Times: Weekends tend to be busier with families, while weekday evenings offer a more intimate experience. They’re closed Mondays, and the Dixie Land Band performs the first Wednesday every month for an extra special experience.
