A young girl’s recovery from surgery sparked something extraordinary.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, four-year-old Sofia turned her healing journey into a mission of spreading joy through homemade treats with her mom and grandmother.

What started as a kitchen project has blossomed into Sweet Sofia’s, a vibrant Mexican-inspired ice cream shop that brings authentic chucherias (Mexican sweets and treats) to Nashville’s Bellevue neighborhood.

This mother-daughter operation opened its doors in April 2023, and every purchase here gives back to local heroes and role models through their heartwarming “Caught You Being Sweet” initiative.

The shop specializes in traditional Mexican frozen treats, savory snacks, and creative desserts that transport you straight to a paleteria in Mexico.

From paletas bursting with tropical flavors to refreshing aguas frescas and loaded snacks that balance sweet, salty, and spicy notes, Sweet Sofia’s delivers an authentic taste experience that stands out in Nashville’s dessert scene.

Frozen Favorites

The Mangonada: This showstopper combines sweet mango with chamoy sauce, lime juice, chili powder, and tajín for a flavor explosion that hits every note.

You get creamy sweetness from fresh mango, tangy brightness from lime, savory depth from chamoy, and a spicy kick that makes each bite memorable. Think of it as a Mexican slushie that wakes up your taste buds.

Paletas Galore: Traditional Mexican popsicles come in both water-based and cream-based varieties, featuring tropical flavors you won’t find at your typical ice cream shop. These aren’t your average popsicles.

Each paleta is made with real fruit and authentic ingredients, giving you that genuine Mexican street cart experience. Families love grabbing two to share alongside an agua fresca.

Classic Ice Cream & Sorbet: Beyond the Mexican specialties, you’ll find traditional ice cream flavors and refreshing sorbets. The butter pecan draws particular attention for its creamy texture and generous nut pieces.

Fruit Cocktails: The Cóctel de Frutas comes loaded with fresh fruit that tastes crisp and vibrant. These cups layer tropical fruits with lime, chili powder, and chamoy for a refreshing snack that balances healthy and indulgent.

Savory Snacks & Sweet Treats

Churros: Freshly made and served warm, these golden pastries arrive with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar coating. The outside crisps up perfectly while the inside stays soft and tender. Grab them right before closing when they’re still hot from preparation.

Dorilocos: This wild creation takes your favorite chips and tops them with lettuce, pickled pork skins, peanuts, sour cream, and cotija cheese. It’s messy, it’s indulgent, and it perfectly captures the spirit of Mexican street snacks where more is definitely more.

Esquites: Street corn gets the cup treatment here. Tender kernels mix with creamy mayonnaise, crumbly cotija cheese, bright lime juice, and chili powder for a savory snack that hits all the right notes.
