Discover The 11-Acre Garden Paradise That Inspired Rock Hill’s Biggest Festival

What began as a simple gift of a few azaleas in 1928 has blossomed into Rock Hill’s crown jewel.

It’s an 11-acre botanical wonderland that inspired the city’s entire festival culture.

David and Hazel Bigger never imagined their backyard passion project would grow to contain 12,000 azaleas and camellias, eventually becoming the inspiration for Rock Hill’s famous Come-See-Me Festival.

Today, this award-winning garden welcomes visitors year-round with tiered fountains, Japanese footbridges, and paved walking trails that wind through a living tapestry of colors, textures, and seasonal blooms that change with every month of the year.

Seasonal Splendor Year-Round

Spring Fairy Tale: Late March through mid-April transforms the garden into nature’s most spectacular light show, with thousands of azaleas in every conceivable shade creating a carpet of color beneath blooming dogwoods, cherry trees, and magnolias.

I’ve lived in Asheville for the past 12 years, but North Carolina has always felt like home. And I've always loved traveling! I enjoy taking the long way just to see what’s out there. When I’m not writing, I’m out with my old Nikon, digging through record bins, or planning my next road trip.
