Carillon Historical Park serves as the main campus for Dayton History, showcasing how this mid-sized Ohio city became the cradle of aviation, automotive innovation, and countless other inventions that transformed modern life.
By the turn of the 20th century, Dayton had more patents per capita than any other U.S. city, and one-sixth of the nation’s corporate executives had spent time at the legendary National Cash Register company headquartered here.
Wright Brothers Aviation Legacy
Original 1905 Wright Flyer III: The crown jewel of the park is the world’s first practical airplane, the 1905 Wright Flyer III, housed in the John W. Berry, Sr. Wright Brothers National Museum. This is the actual aircraft that proved powered flight was not only possible but practical, making it arguably the most important airplane in human history.
