Five generations of apple-growing expertise transforms a simple orchard visit into an unforgettable mountain adventure at this century-old Hendersonville farm. What started as a small family operation in the 1920s has blossomed into Western North Carolina’s premier agritourism destination, where you can sample from 21 different apple varieties, fire apples from cannons at cardboard targets, and bounce on giant jumping pillows while surrounded by breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain views.
The Justus family pioneered the u-pick experience in North Carolina during the 1960s, becoming one of the first orchards in the state to welcome visitors into their rows of dwarf apple trees for hands-on harvesting.
From July through November, this working farm buzzes with seasonal activity as families flock to pick thornless blackberries, crisp apples, and Asian pears while kids ride the famous “Cow Train” through the orchards and adults sample hard ciders in the newly opened taproom.
Apple Picking & Fruit Selection
Twenty-One Apple Varieties: You’ll discover an incredible selection of apple types here, from early-season Gala and Honeycrisp to late-harvest Arkansas Black and Winesap varieties. The dwarf trees make picking easy for children, and you can sample different apples before choosing your favorites. Each row is clearly marked with variety names and ripening dates, taking the guesswork out of finding the perfect apple for eating fresh or baking pies.
Seasonal Fruit Beyond Apples: The farm excels at offering diverse seasonal produce throughout their operating months. In July, you can pick sweet thornless Navaho blackberries that practically fall off the vine. Early September brings Asian pears with their unique apple-like texture and lightly sweet flavor. The u-pick and we-pick options mean you can either harvest your own fruit or purchase pre-picked selections if you prefer to skip the work.
