Drive through winding mountain roads where the GPS signal fades and civilization seems to disappear.

Just when you think you’ve gone too far into the wilderness, a rustic cabin-style building emerges from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This is The Walpack Inn, a family-owned steakhouse that has been serving hearty meals and creating memories since 1949.

What started as a small restaurant purchased by Louise and Adam Heigis has grown into one of New Jersey’s most beloved dining destinations.

Their son Jim took over in the 1960s after graduating from hotel and restaurant school, and his vision transformed the inn with Aspen-inspired additions including massive beam ceilings, a stone fireplace he built himself, and the famous greenhouse dining room added in 1975.

Today, Jim and his family continue welcoming guests with the same warmth his parents showed over seven decades ago.
