Two decades of perfecting family recipes from Greece has transformed this unassuming Bloomington spot into Minnesota’s most celebrated Greek destination.
Gyropolis began with the Contolatis family who came from Greece to Minnesota in 1971, carrying their love of family and tradition.
Dino Contolatis opened Gyropolis in 2005, and by using family recipes, it quickly became a favorite for authentic Greek food. WCCO calls this the best Greek Restaurant on all of Minnesota, and the accolades keep rolling in from food critics and hungry locals alike.
What started as a humble operation in a former donut shop has blossomed into a newly expanded restaurant with new features like a drive-up window and patio following a major 2024 renovation.
You’ll discover that this family-owned treasure serves up portions so generous and flavors so authentic that it regularly draws lines out the door during peak lunch hours, yet somehow manages to keep service lightning-fast.

The Classic Gyropolis: Their flagship creation features rotisserie-carved beef and lamb with onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce wrapped in pillowy soft pita.
You’ll understand why this combination has earned them recognition as the Twin Cities’ premier gyro destination – the meat arrives perfectly seasoned and sliced fresh, while the tzatziki provides that cool, creamy contrast that makes each bite irresistible.
Spicy Options That Actually Deliver: The Spicy Gyro features spicy tzatziki, onions and green peppers for those craving heat.
Unlike many restaurants that tone down spice levels, Gyropolis delivers genuine kick that satisfies even the most ardent spice enthusiasts. The spicy tzatziki transforms the traditional sauce into something bold and memorable.
Creative Fusion Favorites: The Athenian gyro comes loaded with seasoned french fries, onions, tomatoes, mustard, parsley, paprika and tzatziki sauce – essentially Greek-style loaded fries tucked inside a pita.

Triple Meat Indulgence: The Spartan features a mix of gyros, chicken gyro, and pork belly gyro, topped with chopped pepperoncini, onions, tzatziki sauce and oregano. This carnivore’s dream delivers three distinct flavors in one overstuffed pita that requires both hands and serious appetite.
Outstanding Baklava: The restaurant’s baklava ($3) is outrageously delectable, butting up against (or possibly supplanting?) the heavenly stuff sold over at Filfillah in Northeast.
Crunchy and flaky as the dickens, it packs a cinnamon wallop that borders on spicy, a terrific balance for the balanced honey sweetness that concludes each bite.
Fresh Mediterranean Options
Platter Perfection: The Gyro Platter lets you choose from Beef & Lamb, Chicken Gyro, Pork Belly Gyro or Chicken Breast, served with Greek rice, Greek salad, Greek oven potatoes, and Tzatziki Sauce with pita bread.

Vegetarian Standouts: The Mediterranean Platter allows you to choose three dips: Hummus, roasted eggplant, creamy feta or spicy hummus, served with spring green salad, 3-piece falafel, choice of tzatziki or tahini sauce with pita bread.
The falafel arrives crispy outside and fluffy within, while the house-made hummus offers richness that store-bought versions simply can’t match.
Traditional Greek Pies: Spanakopita features fresh spinach, feta cheese, farm-fresh eggs, green onions, fresh dill, and extra virgin olive oil wrapped in flaky phyllo. These aren’t frozen afterthoughts – each pie is crafted with care and arrives hot with perfectly balanced filling-to-pastry ratios.
Casual Comfort With Greek Flair
Fast-Casual Efficiency: You’ll order at the counter cafeteria-style, watching your meal assembled before your eyes by practitioners who’ve perfected their craft. The style is similar to your typical sandwich shop where you walk through the line and they prepare it in front of you with your choice of toppings.

Newly Renovated Space: In 2024, Gyropolis expanded with new features like a drive-up window and patio following extensive renovations.
The updated space offers significantly more seating than the cramped original location, plus outdoor dining for pleasant weather days. The interior maintains the unpretentious Greek taverna vibe while adding modern comfort and convenience.
Family-Friendly Environment: The atmosphere welcomes everyone from business lunchers grabbing quick meals to families sharing platters together. The atmosphere is peaceful, as visitors see it, creating space where conversations flow easily over shared plates of authentic food.
Other Considerations
Exceptional Value: You will pay low prices for your meal considering the generous portions and quality ingredients. The gyros at Gyropolis ($6.50) are the equal of any in the greater metro area, making this an outstanding choice for budget-conscious diners seeking authentic flavors without premium pricing.
