This Brooklyn Center Boba Shop Serves 42 Unique Drinks With Real Fruit & A Cute Pomeranian Mascot

  • Attraction: 102 Boba
  • Location: 1560 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Ste 116, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430
  • Industry: Bubble Tea Shop
  • Website: https://102boba.com/

Forget everything you think you know about boba tea because 102 Boba is rewriting the playbook entirely.

Pete Nguyen and his wife Nina Tran opened this Brooklyn Center gem in February 2024 with a mission to shake up the boba scene by ditching artificial powders and syrups in favor of fresh, real ingredients.

You’ll taste the difference immediately – their smoothies burst with actual banana, strawberry, mango, and pineapple instead of the artificial flavors you might be used to elsewhere.

What started as Nina’s quest to find better boba after being disappointed by similar-tasting drinks across multiple shops has blossomed into a 42-drink menu that’s anything but ordinary.

The shop sits in the Shingle Creek Crossing Shopping Center and has quickly become a neighborhood favorite, earning stellar reviews for both its innovative drinks and welcoming atmosphere.

Signature Drinks & Menu Highlights

The Famous Crème Brûlée: This isn’t your average boba drink – they actually use a custard base to create what many customers call “the most delicious thing ever.” The creamy, rich texture sets it apart from typical milk teas and has become their most talked-about specialty.

Real Fruit Milk Teas: You’ll discover that their strawberry and mango milk teas contain actual fresh fruit pieces, not just flavoring. The strawberry version has earned devoted fans who call it their favorite beverage of all time. Most customers find the 50% sweetness level hits the perfect balance.

Creative Specialty Names: With drinks named Taro Tornado, Matcha Twist, and Sunrise Sunset, each artisanal creation tells its own story. The taro drinks get particular praise for their authentic taste since they use fresh taro root rather than powder.

Coffee & Fresh Tea Options: Beyond boba, you’ll find expertly crafted coffee drinks and refreshing jasmine green tea options. The jasmine green tea (available non-sweet) offers a perfect palate cleanser.

Yogurt Drinks & Smoothies: Their yogurt-based drinks come in flavors like peach and lychee (priced around $6.75), offering a lighter alternative to milk-based options.

Croffles: These innovative treats combine croissant and waffle textures, available in flavors like mango with whipped cream topping. They’re crispy on the outside but not overly sweet.

Bingsu: The Korean-style shaved ice treats paired with fresh fruit have become another customer favorite, perfect for sharing.

Atmosphere & Décor

Seasonal Decorations: You’ll notice the space transforms throughout the year – red hearts for Valentine’s Day, blue spring flowers, and other seasonal themes that keep the environment fresh and Instagram-worthy.

Clean & Modern Vibe: The space maintains a bright, well-kept atmosphere that smells sweet when you walk in. The clean and modern environment features comfortable seating including a cozy couch area.

Pet-Friendly Mascot: You’ll be greeted by Boba, an adorable white Pomeranian who serves as the shop’s living mascot. The delightful creature inspired the 102 Boba logo and was named Boba years before the shop even opened.
