Hortencia and Miguel combined the first two letters of their names to create “Homi” when they opened their dream restaurant in 2010, bringing recipes from their childhood in Mexico to University Avenue’s vibrant food scene.
What started as a longing for the authentic flavors they grew up with has blossomed into one of the Twin Cities’ most beloved Mexican restaurants.
You’ll discover dishes here that transport you straight to various regions of Mexico, from weekend specialties like barbacoa de borrego y consome Hidalgo style to everyday favorites that showcase the depth of Mexican cuisine beyond typical Tex-Mex offerings.
This family-run establishment prides itself on making everything from scratch daily – from beans cooked “de olla” that become their refried beans to handmade empanadas and chiles rellenos. Even their tortilla chips are fried fresh throughout the day, and their salsas are crafted in-house using fresh ingredients rather than canned products.
Signature Dishes You Can’t Miss
Birria Tacos: These have become Homi’s signature dish and most popular menu item, earning recognition as some of the best birria tacos in the Twin Cities.
