Walking into Wealthy Street Bakery feels like discovering a hidden treasure chest where exceptional pastries meet neighborhood charm.
This Grand Rapids institution has been perfecting the art of scratch-made baking since 2002, operating from a beautifully restored 1930s grocery store building that showcases original tin ceilings and classic hardwood floors.
The centerpiece of this operation is something truly spectacular – one of only two hand-crafted artisan bread ovens of its kind in the world, which sits prominently in the center of the store and produces some of Michigan’s most incredible hearth breads and stone-fired pizzas.
What started as a conversation over dinner between four friends has evolved into a beloved community gathering place that anchors the vibrant Wealthy Street corridor.
The bakery underwent new ownership in 2023 when Andrew Havemeier, who had worked his way up from general manager, took over operations with his wife Ondrea, bringing fresh energy while maintaining the quality standards that have made this place a local legend.
