There’s Dutch Clog Dancing, Unlimited Cheese Tasting, And Goats On A Leash At Nelis’ Dutch Village

Four generations of pure magic await when visiting this authentic slice of the Netherlands that somehow found its way to Michigan’s west coast.

Established in 1958, Nelis’ Dutch Village began as the highway outlet of Nelis Tulip Farm, originally known as the Dutch Market before evolving into the full Dutch Village experience.

You’ll discover a family-owned treasure that transforms an ordinary day into an extraordinary journey through time, complete with authentic Dutch architecture, canals, windmills, and the joyful sounds of the Golden Angel street organ creating an atmosphere so immersive you’ll forget you’re just off a busy Michigan highway.

This charming attraction perfectly captures the Netherlands of over 100 years ago, on a day when a festival came to town, offering families an affordable adventure where admission includes unlimited access to rides, demonstrations, and activities that would cost extra at larger theme parks.

Best Experiences & Activities

Authentic Dutch Dancing: You’ll witness skilled performers in traditional costume executing intricate clog dances that bring centuries-old traditions to life. Join in on the fun with Dutch dance lessons where you can learn the steps yourself while eating free popcorn and having baby goats and ducks try to eat the popcorn too.

Convenient Location & Parking: The park is just a few stoplights off the highway with plenty of parking available. While sounds from nearby US-31 and a Walmart outside the fence can occasionally interrupt the village charm, the immersive experience quickly draws you back into Dutch village life.

Pet-Friendly Policy: Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome throughout the village, though they cannot enter indoor dining areas or disturb farm animals.

Seasonal Operation: The theme park operates daily from mid-April through August, with limited September hours. The village holds an annual Tulip Time festival in mid-May when millions of tulips bloom, though this popular time can mean crowded conditions and challenging parking.

Value for Money: Souvenir prices are very reasonable considering this is a tourist attraction, and the fudge and cheese alone are worth the visit with free tastings but affordable full portions.

I have been writing since college, after college I moved to Michigan for good. Nothing beats the Great Lakes in the summer or a cider mill in the fall. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me browsing indie bookstores or hanging out with friends. Michigan has the best sunsets and I will die on that hill.
