What happens when childhood nostalgia meets artisanal craftsmanship and a dash of Atlanta innovation?
You discover that soft-serve doesn’t have to be an afterthought from a gas station machine. Big Softie opened in 2019 in the Summerhill neighborhood right next door to one of Atlanta’s most beloved bakeries, Little Tart Bakeshop.
What started as a simple homage to the soft-serve of Sarah O’Brien’s youth in her native Ohio, grew into a thriving business with a line wrapped around the building on summer nights and weekends.
This isn’t your typical ice cream shop where corners are cut and quality takes a backseat to convenience. At Big Softie we make soft serve with the best ingredients, including local Georgia dairy and organic cane sugar.
Our toppings and waffle cones are all made in house by the amazing baking team at our sister company, Little Tart Bakeshop. The result is a soft-serve experience that has earned a devoted following and expanded to three Atlanta locations.

Core Classics: Big Softie serves classic vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and vegan oat vanilla year-round, but don’t mistake these for ordinary flavors. The vanilla isn’t just vanilla—it’s made with organic dairy that creates a remarkably creamy texture that melts perfectly on your tongue. The chocolate delivers rich, deep cocoa notes without being overpowering.
Matcha Magic: The matcha soft serve melts in the mouth and has become such a standout that you’ll want to try it in nearly every combination imaginable. The petite matcha and vanilla swirl with cornflake streusel creates the perfect balance of earthy green tea and sweet vanilla.
Vegan Excellence: The vegan oat milk/coconut milk vanilla has a great consistency and doesn’t melt like many sorbets. This isn’t a consolation prize for plant-based eaters—it’s a genuinely outstanding flavor that dairy lovers often choose simply because it tastes incredible.
Seasonal Surprises: Rotating seasonal options include Thai tea, peach sorbet, Earl Grey, olive oil, and cantaloupe, ensuring there’s always something new to discover. These aren’t gimmicky flavors thrown together for novelty—each seasonal offering is carefully crafted to complement the core menu.
Hard Shell Heaven: Chocolate hardshell, strawberry hardshell, and other coating options transform your soft-serve into a textural adventure. The vanilla swirl with passion fruit hard shell and strawberry shortcake crumbles creates layers of flavor and crunch that make each bite exciting.
