Rainbow wings dance through humid air as over 1,000 tropical butterflies transform an ordinary Georgia afternoon into pure magic.
The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center at Callaway Gardens houses North America’s largest glass-enclosed tropical conservatory, where visitors step into a living kaleidoscope that changes with every flutter and landing.
Since opening in 1988, this 7,300-square-foot glass dome has been one of the first three butterfly centers in the United States, creating an immersive tropical paradise that maintains perfect conditions year-round.
Named after Days Inn founder Cecil B. Day, this conservatory rises 35 feet at its peak, allowing natural sunlight to stream through and create the perfect environment for both butterflies and the 250 plant varieties that sustain them.
A Living Rainbow of Species & Seasonal Spectacles
Tropical Diversity: You’ll encounter butterflies from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Kenya, and Malaysia, with over 50 different species represented at various times throughout the year. Each visit reveals different species as the population naturally shifts and changes, ensuring no two experiences are identical.
