Walking past this unassuming converted gas station in downtown Buford might not prepare you for the explosion of flavors waiting inside.
Rico’s World Kitchen has transformed what was once a Pure gas station into one of Metro Atlanta’s most beloved dining destinations, where international comfort cuisine meets Southern hospitality in the most unexpected way.
Chef Rico Cunnington and his culinary team have created something truly special here – a place where Filipino lumpia shares menu space with Louisiana po’boys, and where daily specials showcase everything from firecracker alligator tail to smoked Gouda grits with blackened salmon.
The restaurant’s journey began over eight years ago when Rico started with just four tables in a small space near the Mall of Georgia. Working alongside his mother Nett (affectionately called “Ma”), whose Filipino egg rolls sparked the entire venture, Rico quickly outgrew that original location.
Within three years, they moved to their current home in historic downtown Buford, where the converted gas station provides a quirky backdrop that perfectly matches their creative approach to comfort food.

Fried Green Tomato Salad: This award-winning dish has become Rico’s calling card for good reason. The lightly fried green tomatoes sit atop fresh lettuce with applewood bacon that’s actually smoked on their outdoor patio, crumbled blue cheese, and Roma tomatoes, all brought together with Rico’s famous homemade celery seed dressing. Each bite delivers the perfect balance of crispy, creamy, and tangy flavors.
Mojo Pork Sandwich: Influenced by Canary Islands cuisine, this sandwich features pork that’s marinated in mojo seasonings and hickory-smoked right on Rico’s patio. The tender, pulled pork gets topped with their signature guava barbecue sauce and nestled into a soft potato bun with pickles. You’ll taste the Caribbean influences in every bite.
Shrimp and Grits with Cajun Butter: When this daily special appears on the menu, regulars know to order immediately. Blackened shrimp crown a bed of smoked Gouda and white cheddar grits, served with fresh spinach and finished with rich Cajun butter that ties all the flavors together beautifully.
Royal Rooster: This fried chicken sandwich gets elevated with habanero seasoning that adds just the right amount of heat without overwhelming the palate. The smoked Gouda cheese option creates an even richer flavor profile than the standard Swiss.
Chicken Cuban: The mojo dipping sauce that accompanies this sandwich has achieved legendary status among locals. The perfectly seasoned chicken pairs beautifully with the tangy, garlicky sauce that perfectly complements every bite.
