Childhood memories spring to vivid reality within a converted 1914 elementary school building in Midtown Atlanta. The Center for Puppetry Arts opened to the public on September 23, 1978, when Kermit the Frog and his creator Jim Henson cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Today it is the largest American non-profit organization solely dedicated to the art of puppet theater. What began as founder Vincent Anthony’s vision to create a permanent home for puppetry has evolved into America’s most comprehensive puppetry destination, housing nearly 5,000 puppets and artifacts that span cultures and decades.
The Worlds of Puppetry Museum features the Jim Henson Collection Gallery, the definitive collection of more than 500 puppets, props, and costumes honoring his legacy with the largest collection of such items in the world!
You’ll discover interactive exhibits, live performances, hands-on workshops, and two distinct museum galleries that celebrate both global puppetry traditions and America’s most beloved puppet creator.
World-Class Jim Henson Collection
The Henson Studio Recreation: You’ll walk through carefully recreated environments from Jim Henson’s creative world, including his office and television studio setups that transport you directly into the master puppeteer’s workspace. Interactive stations let you try shadow puppetry, operate marionettes, and experiment with puppets in a recreated studio setting.

For 45 years, we have called Atlanta’s Spring Street Elementary School (built in 1914) our home.
