Dolphins actually choose whether to participate in sessions at this extraordinary facility where some residents are direct descendants of Mitzi, the dolphin who starred in the original Flipper TV series.

Located on a natural saltwater lagoon in the heart of the Florida Keys, the Dolphin Research Center offers visitors intimate encounters with 27 dolphins, four California sea lions, exotic birds, and even African spurred tortoises.

Founded in 1984 by former Marine Corps veteran Armando “Mandy” Rodriguez and his wife Jayne, this nonprofit research facility sits on the historic site where commercial fisherman Milton Santini first established his “Porpoise School” in 1958.

You’ll discover this isn’t just another marine park – it’s a working research facility where groundbreaking studies on dolphin cognition, communication, and behavior happen daily, and you can witness actual research sessions during your visit.

Interactive Experiences That Create Lasting Memories

Dolphin Encounter Swimming Experience: Get ready for the thrill of a lifetime as you slip into the warm Gulf waters for a 20-25 minute swimming session. You’ll experience the famous “dorsal pull” where a dolphin glides you through the water, plus receive an unforgettable dolphin kiss.
