Step Into A 1950s Drive-In Movie At Orlando’s Hollywood Drive-In Golf Attraction

Published: June 30, 2025

What happens when you combine classic B-movie nostalgia with cutting-edge miniature golf technology?

You get an experience that completely redefines what putt-putt can be. Hollywood Drive-In Golf at Universal CityWalk Orlando offers two state-of-the-art 18-hole courses unlike any other miniature golf experience.

Inspired by the 1950’s era, guests enter a classic drive-in theater box office area where they select either a “single-feature” (18-holes) or “double-feature” (36-holes) from two dramatically different themed courses. This isn’t your typical windmill-and-clown-face mini golf – it’s a Hollywood production where every hole tells a story and surprises lurk around every corner.

Themed Course Adventures

The Haunting of Ghostly Greens: Based on classic horror movies, this course will have you teeing off through the open mouth of a giant space worm and into the basement lab of a towering haunted house. One standout hole features a hedged maze you must play through that reminds visitors of the third Tri-Wizard task in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or the end of The Shining.

The course includes surprise obstacles that shoot water at you and audio to match the overall haunted theme. You’ll navigate through spooky cemeteries and walk under giant spiders, all while classic horror movie soundtracks from The Munsters and The Addams Family play in the background.

Invaders From Planet Putt: The second course is themed after the “little green men” science fiction films of the 1950s, featuring alien invaders, robots, and even a giant space worm. One hole has a huge alien ship that you need to walk through and actually press a button so that a door opens, Star Trek-style, to let you out.

Many reviewers prefer the alien side over the scary side, noting that the sci-fi theme feels more playful and family-friendly. The soundtrack here includes theme songs from The Jetsons and Men In Black, mixed with hits like “Spirits in the Material World” by The Police.

Interactive Special Effects: Many holes have an element you need to knock your ball through in order to trigger a special sound effect. The sound effects and secret surprises make the experience even more fun, with fantastic music playing throughout.

The 18th hole on each course is something to behold, as one side uses a Rube Goldberg-esque contraption to move your ball along, while the other side has the actual hole, itself, on a turntable moving the entire time.

Atmosphere & Experience

Day vs. Night Play: LED neon edge-lighting allows play during the day and night, creating two completely different experiences. Some visitors prefer daytime play as you can see the layouts better along with the hole you’re putting into, while night gives you a different experience.

Despite the haunted-inspired decor, Hollywood Drive-In Golf has a light, fun atmosphere with bright colors and LED lighting that keep it fun and approachable for the whole family.

Climate Comfort Features: Unlike most other mini golf courses in the area, because Hollywood Drive-In Golf is so close to the massive overhead walkway leading to the parking garages, there is some shade to combat the heat.

There are also some themed fans throughout the course that allow players to press a button and have water shoot out from the fan – a welcome relief during Florida’s hot summer days.

Cleanliness & Maintenance: This was described as the cleanest and well maintained mini golf attraction some visitors have ever been to. The courses are regularly maintained and feature modern construction that shows Universal’s attention to detail.

Other Considerations

Pricing Structure: For 18 holes, prices are $21.99 for ages 10+ and $19.99 for ages 3-9 before 6:00 PM, with after 6:00 PM pricing at $24.99 for ages 10+ and $22.99 for ages 3-9.

To add the second course (36 holes total), it costs an additional $18.99 for ages 10+ and $16.99 for ages 3-9. While some visitors note the pricing is on the higher side for mini golf, most agree the unique experience and Universal-level theming justify the cost.

Perfect Date Night Activity: This is definitely many visitors’ favorite mini golf course and makes a great activity for date night or a group outing. The attraction appeals to adults and families alike, offering sophisticated theming that keeps older guests engaged while remaining accessible for children.

No Reservations Needed: Advance reservations are not available, but tickets may be purchased online and are valid for any date. Golfing is on a first-come, first-serve basis – there only tends to be much of a wait during the evening in peak summer months. You can purchase tickets online for up to 13% savings and play whenever you’d like.

Convenient Location: Mini golf courses are ubiquitous in Orlando, but Hollywood Drive-In Golf is the only one you don’t have to travel to after a day in the parks as it’s part of Universal CityWalk. The attraction is open seven days a week between 9:00 am and 12:00 am, making it perfect for an evening activity after the theme parks close.

Double Feature Flexibility: For the best bang for your buck and the ultimate experience, experts recommend testing your skills on both courses. The second set of 18 holes can be played anytime; just hold on to your receipt. This means you can play one course today and return another day to complete your “double feature.”
