Founded in 1986 and named for a dog and cat, Bud & Alley’s has been a revered gathering place by loyal patrons for great food, great fun and Seaside’s finest sunsets.
What started as a leap of faith by two 24-year-old surfers has evolved into one of 17 of Florida’s Most Legendary restaurants according to Southern Living Magazine and South Walton’s longest established restaurant.
The quirky backstory makes this place even more endearing. The pair named the place after the town founder’s dog and the restaurant owner’s cat, creating what would become a multigenerational dining tradition in the heart of Seaside.
Today, Bud & Alley’s has garnered numerous awards including Florida Trend Magazines Golden Spoon Award designating the eatery as one of the top 20 restaurants in Florida and continues to be the crown jewel of 30A dining.
Menu Highlights & Signature Dishes
The Famous Crab Cakes: These aren’t your typical restaurant crab cakes filled with bread crumbs and fillers. People love our crab cakes, which we prepare as simply as possible with no filler, to keep the crab as the star.

Keep Exploring →We pan-fry them and serve them over greens with a little lemon-butter sauce. Packed with lump crab so moist and delicate, these golden beauties consistently earn rave reviews from visitors who claim they’re the best they’ve ever tasted.
Whole Roasted Fish: You’ll be amazed when this showstopper arrives at your table. We stuff the fish with lemon and thyme, roast it on a bed of salt, then serve [it] on a bed of arugula with a side of beans and boiled potatoes. The presentation alone is Instagram-worthy, but the flavors are what will keep you coming back.
Barbequed Head-On Shrimp: This Gulf Coast classic gets the Bud & Alley’s treatment with andouille sausage, garlic and rosemary, and serve them with a white-wine-and-butter sauce and grilled Tuscan bread. The smoky, garlicky combination perfectly captures the essence of coastal Florida dining.
Smoked Tuna Dip: A crowd favorite that’s perfect for sharing, especially up on the rooftop deck. This is the place to linger and savor hand-cut sweet potato fries, or an order of smoked tuna dip with lavash crackers and an ice-cold beer before diving into dinner.
Baked Oysters Seaside: A platter filled with plump, juicy oysters, and topped with a “seaside butter”, containing chopped scallops, shrimp, cilantro, salt, pepper, then Panko bread crumbs, before being baked in the oven and served with fresh lemon. It’s a perfect representation of what makes Seaside’s culinary scene so special.

The Crab Cake Benedict puts a coastal twist on the classic brunch dish, while their house-made granola and pork belly hash offer something for every palate.
Atmosphere & Rooftop Experience
The Legendary Rooftop Deck: Just steps from the front door and up the stairs to Bud & Alley’s Roof-Top Deck, guests can enjoy their meals in an open-air setting with spectacular and unparalleled panoramic views of Seaside and the Gulf of Mexico. This isn’t just any rooftop bar – it’s become the epicenter of Seaside’s social scene.
Sunset Bell Tradition: A cast-iron bell from an 1888 steam train is rung each day to honor the sunset. It wasn’t long before the ritual quickly became a beloved Seaside tradition. You can even win a free cocktail if you guess the exact time the sun will disappear below the horizon!
Multiple Dining Spaces: Whether you prefer the sun room with its bright, airy feel, the cozy indoor dining room, or the outdoor patio nestled in the dunes, you’ll find the perfect spot for your mood. Seating is offered in the sun room (my favorite inside dining space), bar, dining room, outside next to the dunes on the patio, or with a limited menu on the deck upstairs.
Beachfront Location: Bud & Alley’s is nestled in the dunes overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, giving you that true beachfront dining experience where you can literally feel the sea breeze while you eat. The location puts you right in the heart of Seaside’s charm with easy beach access.

The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between upscale and relaxed, making it welcoming for families while still feeling special for date nights.
Other Considerations
Pricing Expectations: You’ll find that Bud & Alley’s falls into the higher-end pricing category for the area, which some visitors note in reviews. The investment reflects the premium location, award-winning cuisine, and exceptional Gulf views.
While it’s pricier than casual beachside eateries, most guests agree the quality and experience justify the cost – especially for special occasions.
Reservation Strategy: Highly recommend making reservations in advance since this place stays busy year-round. The rooftop bar operates on a first-come, first-served basis for sunset drinks, so arrive early if you want the best seats for the nightly bell-ringing ceremony.
Parking Reality: Public Parking is available all throughout Seaside and on CR-30A, though finding a spot during peak season can be challenging. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to secure parking, especially during sunset hours when the rooftop bar draws crowds.

Lunch is available from 11:30 am to 3pm daily, and dinner is served 5:30 pm to 10 pm. The Roof-Top Deck is open from 11:30 am until late into the night.
Three Dining Concepts: Beyond the main restaurant, you’ll also find Bud & Alley’s Taco Bar and Pizza Bar on the property, giving you multiple options for more casual dining if you’re not in the mood for the full fine-dining experience.
Awards and Recognition: Bud & Alley’s has garnered numerous awards, including Florida Trend Magazines Golden Spoon Hall of Fame Award, an honor only reserved for 30 Florida restaurants. Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has even featured the restaurant on his cooking show.
