Since 1950s Cuba, 81-year-old Ortelio “El Mago” Cárdenas has been perfecting a Cuban hamburger so legendary that President Obama couldn’t resist stopping by for a bite during his 2010 Miami visit.
When the Cuban Revolution forced the Cárdenas family to flee to Miami in 1984, they brought their treasured frita recipe to Calle Ocho, where El Mago de las Fritas has become a pilgrimage site for anyone seeking authentic Cuban comfort food.
