Picture this: billowing clouds of sweet, smoky perfume wafting from a modest building at the crossroads of adventure and appetite. Smokin’ D’s BBQ has been turning heads and stopping traffic at the bustling intersection of US1 and State Road 206 for years, luring barbecue pilgrims with its irresistible hickory-scented siren song.
Founded by Darryl Perritt, who left the advertising world to chase his barbecue dreams, Smokin’ D’s represents everything authentic about Southern pit cooking. Darryl and his son Cameron literally built their smokehouse with their own hands, opening day with what they thought was a weekend’s worth of meat – it sold out in 45 minutes.
The family-owned operation now serves two St. Augustine locations, maintaining their unwavering commitment to fresh-smoked meats that are prepared daily and never reheated from yesterday’s batch.
Smoky Perfection On Your Plate
The Brisket: When you bite into Smokin’ D’s beef brisket, you’re experiencing 12-15 hours of low-and-slow perfection. Each slice reveals a perfect pink smoke ring, with tender meat that practically falls apart at first touch. The Memphis Sweet sauce adds just the right amount of molasses-kissed sweetness without overpowering that deep, smoky flavor.
Rack of Ribs: These aren’t your typical dry, chewy ribs that plague many barbecue joints. Smokin’ D’s spare ribs arrive at your table with meat so tender it slides right off the bone, yet maintains that satisfying bite that lets you know you’re eating real barbecue. The dry rub creates a gorgeous bark that seals in all those smoky juices.
