This isn’t your typical peek-behind-velvet-ropes museum experience—you’ll actually get “booked” as an inmate and hear spine-tingling tales of the notorious criminals who once called these cells home.
Built in 1891 by railroad magnate Henry Flagler, this imposing Romanesque Revival structure was cleverly disguised to look like a Victorian mansion rather than the maximum-security fortress it truly was.
What makes this attraction particularly fascinating is its authentic preservation of 19th-century penal life, complete with the sheriff’s family quarters located directly above the prisoner cells.
