Meet The Pizza Wizards Charring Pies On Purpose (And Making Orlando Obsessed)

Published: September 5, 2025

Forget everything you think you know about pizza perfection.

Black Magic Pizza isn’t just challenging Orlando’s pizza scene – they’re completely rewriting the rulebook with their signature charred crusts and rock-and-roll attitude.

What started as a pandemic-era pop-up operation has evolved into the Milk District’s most talked-about walk-up window, where “punk rock pizza wizards” serve up New-Neapolitan creations that look burned but taste absolutely magical.

Located inside the legendary Whiskey Lou’s Lounge, this 500-square-foot pizza portal has been enchanting locals since 2019 with their unconventional approach to artisan pizza.

The trio behind Black Magic – Traviss Santos, Elizabeth Hill, and Justin Gioronda – proudly embrace the motto “burning your pies since 2019,” turning what most pizzerias avoid into their signature calling card.

Pizza Perfection with a Dark Twist

The Signature Char: Black Magic’s most distinctive feature is their intentionally charred crust that creates deep pockets of caramelization.

This isn’t accidental burning – it’s deliberate artistry that adds incredible complexity and flavor layers to every bite. The char might look intimidating at first, but it delivers a gorgeous, chewy-crisp foundation that’s become their trademark.

Hornet’s Nest: This standout creation features soppressata drizzled with hot honey, creating the perfect balance of salty and sweet. The combination of spicy meat with golden honey creates flavor fireworks that keep customers coming back for more.

Dr. Pepperoni: Their take on the classic gets elevated with high-quality cupping pepperoni that forms perfect little grease cups when heated. The spice maple swirl adds an unexpected sweetness that complements the savory elements beautifully.

Coheed & Calabria: Named after the rock band Coheed & Cambria, this pie loads up red sauce with whole milk mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and Calabrian chilies for a perfect harmony of heat and flavor.

White Iverson: A garlic ricotta base supports whole milk mozzarella, caramelized onions, and a toasted sesame seed crust that adds an unexpected nutty crunch.

Jack the Tripper: This creamy, garlicky creation gets topped with fresh arugula and parmesan, creating a sophisticated flavor profile that feels both indulgent and fresh.

Tuscan Leather: Despite its meaty-sounding name, this vegetarian option surprises with cherry tomatoes, spinach, and garlic ricotta base that delivers incredible depth without any meat.

Beyond Pizza Magic

Cannoli Creations: The OG cannoli follows mama’s secret recipe with light, citrusy cream featuring hints of lemon, cinnamon, and nutmeg. You’ll also find limited-time specials like the Biscoff Cookie Butter cannoli that disappears almost as quickly as it appears.

Mozzarella Sticks: These aren’t your average appetizer – expect super crispy exteriors giving way to divine, gooey cheese centers, served with excellent marinara for dipping.

Poutine Perfection: Their Canadian-inspired dish features incredible gravy that reviewers consistently rave about, elevating this comfort food classic.

Wings & Garlic Knots: Round out your meal with their chicken wings or garlic knots that maintain the same quality standards as their pizzas.

Atmosphere & Unique Setting

Walk-Up Window Experience: Black Magic operates from a literal hole-in-the-wall setup at Whiskey Lou’s Lounge, creating one of Orlando’s most unique dining experiences. You order at the walk-up window, but can enjoy your food inside the legendary bar with its cash-only drinks poured to the brim.

Rock & Roll Vibe: The punk rock aesthetic extends beyond just the name – this is a place where alternative pizza meets alternative culture. The team even turned negative Facebook comments into merchandise, showing their rebellious spirit.

Milk District Location: Perfectly positioned in one of Orlando’s hippest neighborhoods, you can easily bar-hop between Sportstown, Sideward Brewing, and the Milkhouse while waiting for your pizza.

Intimate Space: The 500-square-foot operation maintains that coveted pop-up feel even in their permanent location, creating an exclusive, almost speakeasy-like atmosphere.

Other Considerations

Pricing & Value: Expect mid-tier pricing around $17-23 for pizzas, which represents excellent value considering these hand-tossed creations are roughly 13 inches – larger than typical Neapolitan pies. The quality-to-price ratio is outstanding for artisan wood-fired pizza.

Limited Hours: Open Wednesday through Sunday, typically from 4 PM with varying closing times. Weekend nights (Friday-Saturday) stay open latest until midnight, while Sundays close earlier at 9 PM.

High Demand: They frequently sell out, especially on weekends, so ordering ahead online is highly recommended. Don’t be discouraged if you see a “Completely Sold Out” sign – this happens regularly due to their small-batch approach.

No Traditional Seating: This is purely a walk-up operation, though you can enjoy your pizza inside Whiskey Lou’s or take it to-go.

Pop-Up Events: Beyond their permanent location, they still do offsite events and catering throughout Orlando, so follow their Instagram for special appearances.

Small-Batch Quality: Their dough is mixed in small batches to maintain consistently high standards, which means limited quantities but exceptional quality every time.
