Picture this: a Chicago transplant so disappointed by Florida’s hot dogs that he builds his own slice of the Windy City right on Colonial Drive. That’s exactly what happened in 1987 when Mike Feld opened Hot Dog Heaven, complete with a replica of the iconic Wolfy’s neon sign from his childhood.
Nearly four decades later, this unassuming spot has become an Orlando institution, drawing lines of devoted hot dog lovers who come for one thing – the most authentic Chicago-style dogs outside of Illinois. You’ll spot Hot Dog Heaven instantly thanks to its towering neon hot dog sign that’s become a landmark on East Colonial Drive.
What started as a 500-square-foot operation quickly outgrew its space as word spread about their Vienna Beef dogs served exactly like they do in Chicago. Now run by Mike’s daughter Holly and her husband, this family operation continues the tradition of bringing that unmistakable Chicago flavor to Central Florida.
Chicago-Style Perfection
The Great Chicago Fire Dog: This is where Hot Dog Heaven truly shines. A 100% pure beef Vienna natural casing hot dog on a steamed poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickle, and hot peppers – it’s the authentic Chicago experience you’ve been craving.
The natural casing gives that satisfying snap when you bite down, while the steamed poppy seed bun provides the perfect soft foundation for all those traditional toppings.

The juxtaposition of cold crunch slaw with soft hot chili creates an incredible flavor combination that keeps people coming back. The chili comes with or without beans, and the beanless version packs a punch without being too greasy or overwhelming.
The Reuben Dog: Think you know hot dogs? Think again. This creative masterpiece tops a Vienna beef dog with Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut, and melted Swiss cheese. It’s like your favorite deli sandwich reimagined as a hot dog, and somehow it works perfectly.
Jumbo Options: Every single hot dog comes in regular and jumbo sizes, so you can satisfy whatever level of hunger you’re bringing to the table. The jumbo versions are substantial enough to make a full meal, especially when paired with their famous fries.
Three Dozen Variations: There are Southern dogs heaped with slaw, Chicago dogs smothered with peppers, pickles, relish and tomatoes, and New York dogs topped with mustard and onions. Whether you want something simple or loaded with toppings, they’ve got a combination that’ll hit the spot.
Sides & Extras Worth Ordering
Fresh-Cut Fries: The fries were the way fries should be: sizzling and crisp outside, steamy inside. They’re made fresh daily and come in generous portions that easily feed two people. You’ll get a heaping basket that’s perfectly seasoned and cooked to golden perfection.

Atmosphere & Setting
No-Frills Chicago Vibe: The aroma of dogs and fries hangs in the room, creating that authentic hot dog stand atmosphere you’d find in Chicago. The small indoor space features bar seating surrounded by Chicago photography and autographed pictures that tell the story of this family business.
Outdoor Patio Dining: Hordes of “red hot” lovers are hunched over baskets of dogs and fries on the patio tables, chowing down, generally oblivious to the noise and traffic fumes of Colonial Drive. The outdoor seating gives you that classic roadside stand experience where the focus is purely on great food.
Assembly Line Efficiency: You’ll notice the well-oiled machine behind the counter where each hot dog gets steamed to perfection and assembled with precision. The long line moves quickly because of the assembly line that prepares your food – boiled dogs, steamed buns and lots and lots of fixings.

Other Considerations
Budget-Friendly Pricing: You can get out inexpensively with a basic dog or you can spend a little more and get a hot dog about every way imaginable. Most combo baskets range from around $5-7, making it an affordable meal that doesn’t skimp on quality or portion size.
Perfect for Quick Lunch: The counter-service setup means you can be in and out quickly, making it ideal for lunch breaks or when you want good food without the sit-down restaurant wait times.
Family-Friendly: The casual atmosphere and outdoor seating make it great for families, though the focus is definitely on the food rather than fancy amenities.
Peak Hour Strategy: If you head to Hot Dog heaven during lunch, expect to wait if you don’t get there at opening. The lines can get very long but it’s well worth the wait. Consider visiting during off-peak hours if you want to avoid the crowds.
