Polydactyl cats stroll between the tables while roosters strut across reclaimed slate flooring that once hosted Ernest Hemingway’s boxing matches.
Blue Heaven transforms what was once a bordello, gambling hall, and cockfighting arena into Key West’s most enchanting al fresco dining experience, where Caribbean flavors meet island history under a canopy of tropical trees.
Located in the historic Bahama Village, this garden restaurant has been captivating diners since 1992 when artists Suanne and Richard opened their doors with nothing more than gardening tools and Mom’s church cookbook.
The property’s colorful past includes serving as a dance hall, pool parlor, and even hosting Friday night boxing matches refereed by none other than Ernest Hemingway himself. Today, the upstairs Bordello Gallery still features original peep holes from its more scandalous days, while downstairs, the courtyard’s paved slate floors tell their own stories of island life.
