See Why Locals Keep Quiet About The Oysters From This Legendary Raw Bar In Port St. Joe

Somewhere between the rush of modern dining and the forgotten ways of old Florida lies a weathered building that’s been serving the best oysters on the planet for nearly a century.

Indian Pass Raw Bar traces its roots back to a commissary for a turpentine operation that began in 1903, transforming into the legendary seafood destination it is today after the McNeil family started serving meals in 1929.

The team sources hyper-locally, pulling their selection from beds every morning in the nearby Apalachicola Bay, with oysters that are highly coveted by chefs around the country and thought to be among the best oysters on the planet.

This isn’t your typical restaurant experience. You won’t find a hostess and you won’t find a dress code that requires a suit and tie – what you will find is friendly locals in tank tops and flip flops in a casual dining atmosphere. When you get here, just grab a seat and get a drink from the cooler, then find a waitress and let her know what you want to eat.

Signature Seafood Selections

Raw Oysters: Deep-cupped Apalachicolas are nothing short of magnificent eaten raw from the half shell, each a fine mouthful glistening with oceanic liquor, painfully tender, ocean-sweet, and overwhelmingly satisfying. These oysters literally slept in the bay last night – you can’t get much fresher than that.

Atmosphere & Décor

Historic Building: This classic 115-year-old building sits surrounded by stately pine trees along County Road 30A in the heart of “Old Florida” country. The weathered exterior and rustic interior transport you back to simpler times.

Self-Service System: You go in, select a table, and have a seat. Get up, go to the cooler on the back wall, and get your drinks – be that bottled beer, soft drinks, or something from the draft dispenser. Note it on your ‘scorecard’ on your honor. The honor system with the coolers means you’re never waiting on a drink – impressive that it’s still done like this.

Casual Vibe: This is a laid back place with a simple approach to everything. Everything is served directly on trays, keeping it simple with nothing fancy. The atmosphere perfectly captures that authentic Old Florida feel.

Other Considerations
