While most museums display a fraction of their collections, the Center for Creative Photography invites visitors to literally open drawers and handle original photographs by the greatest masters in American photography history.
Co-founded in 1975 by University of Arizona President John Schaefer and legendary photographer Ansel Adams himself, this 55,000-square-foot facility houses over 8 million archival objects representing the most comprehensive collection of American photography in the world.
What started with the archives of five master photographers has grown into 270 archival collections that tell the complete story of photography as an art form.
World-Class Archives
Ansel Adams Complete Collection: As co-founder, Adams donated his entire life’s work, including over 2,500 fine prints, all known negatives, correspondence, personal equipment, and even handwritten notes.
This definitive collection provides unprecedented insight into how he developed from a 14-year-old tourist with a camera into America’s most celebrated photographer.
