What started as a 1933 gas station in Phoenix’s Melrose District has transformed into one of the city’s most beloved neighborhood coffee shops, where everything is made from scratch and community spirit flows as freely as the locally roasted coffee.
Copper Star Coffee embodies the “do it yourself” ethos that built America, with owners Bill and Ginger Sandweg creating a place where artisanal meets accessible.
Since 2006, they’ve been serving award-winning coffee and baked goods in a converted historic gas station that’s become the heart of the LGBTQ+-friendly Melrose District.
Coffee & Signature Drinks
House-Roasted Local Coffee: Partnership with Lost Dutchman Coffee Roasters ensures fresh, locally roasted beans that consistently deliver rich, complex flavors. Their standard drip coffee comes hot or iced with flavor options like vanilla, amaretto, and butter pecan.
Award-Winning Lavender Latte: Their house-made lavender syrup earned them Phoenix’s Best Herbal Latte award. The floral notes are perfectly balanced – aromatic without being overpowering or soapy like inferior versions.
